Services
Toys, electrical goods and many other products sold in the EU need a responsible person based in the EU, named on the product or its packaging. Most consumer products need one too. Our representative service fills that role.
VAT+ is powered by VATAi (VATAI Technology SRL). Their tax specialists file for you. We stay your contact.
The name on that line tells the authorities who to contact in the EU about your product.
Article 4 of Regulation (EU) 2019/1020 asks for:
They go on the product, its packaging, the parcel or a document that comes with it.
The operator behind that name:
Two EU laws ask for this person.
| What the official source says | Source | |
|---|---|---|
| CE-marked goods | Toys, electrical and radio equipment and other products under the laws listed in Article 4 may be placed on the EU market only if an economic operator based in the EU is responsible for them. It keeps the declaration of conformity for the authorities. | Regulation (EU) 2019/1020, Article 4 |
| Consumer products | A product under the General Product Safety Regulation may be placed on the EU market only if an economic operator based in the EU is responsible for set compliance tasks. Its name and contact details go on the product, packaging, parcel or a document with it. | Regulation (EU) 2023/988, Article 16 |
Article 4 says these can fill the role:
For consumer products, the General Product Safety Regulation adds a duty. Where the risks call for it, the operator checks that the product matches its technical documentation and carries the labels the regulation asks for.
Our EU Rep service also acts as your responsible person under the EU General Product Safety Regulation.
The five-question checker shows which of these rules your own answers trigger.
Your representative service includes:
The representative does not make your product compliant. The EU’s Your Europe portal says the manufacturer must make sure a product meets all EU requirements, and must affix the CE marking.
Testing is not part of the representative’s list either. VATAi states that product testing and certification cost extra.

The process
A specialist looks at what you sell and where, and which EU rules your products fall under.
You order the Authorised Representative service.
You upload your product documents, and we review your technical file.
You sign the representative agreement: the written mandate the law asks for. Then the representative’s details go on your label.
Questions
An authorised representative is a person in the EU with your written mandate to carry out set tasks for you. “Responsible person” is the title of Article 16 of the General Product Safety Regulation: the economic operator in the EU who is responsible for those tasks for a consumer product.
An authorised representative can fill that role, and so can a manufacturer or importer based in the EU.
Article 4 of Regulation (EU) 2019/1020 lists its tasks: check that the EU declaration of conformity and technical documentation have been drawn up, keep the declaration ready for the authorities, give them the documents they ask for, tell them about a product it believes presents a risk, and cooperate with them on corrective action. The article sets these tasks without prejudice to the duties you already have as manufacturer under the product laws.
For anything beyond that list, ask a lawyer.
Only products covered by EU rules that require it. The EU’s Your Europe portal names toys and electrical and electronic equipment among them, and links to the complete list of EU laws that require the mark.
If no EU rule requires CE marking for your product, you must not use it.
Great Britain has its own rules. GOV.UK says your products must meet GB rules even if you sold them in an EU country first, and what you need to do depends on the type of goods.
Placing a product on the GB market from outside the UK brings importer responsibilities. We cover UK representation too, so tell us what you sell there.
No. Testing is not on the representative’s list: it reviews your technical documents and does not run tests.
VATAi states that product testing and certification cost extra. Tick product testing in the form on this page, and we send you a price.
On the product, or on its packaging, the parcel or a document that goes with it. Regulation (EU) 2019/1020 asks for the name, registered trade name or registered trade mark and contact details, postal address included.
For consumer products, the General Product Safety Regulation adds an electronic address.
Check the money-back guarantee on this page before you pay, and ask us about anything it does not answer.
